Internationally renowned South African musician Maya Wegerif, known by her fans as Sho Madjozi, is shooting for the literary stars with the release of her debut children’s book, Shoma and the Stars on 3 December 2022.
Published by Ethnikids Publishers, on December 3rd, Shoma and the Stars is a unique South African tale with an important message and a touching backstory and the multiple award-winning singer, songwriter and performing artist is currently on a book tour to meet and connect with the young fans who helped inspire Shoma and the Stars.
The tour starts at the V&A Waterfront on Sunday December 18th with a reading at 12pm in the Centre Court outside H&M, followed by a book signing and meet-and-greet at Exclusive Books from 12h30 to 13h30. On Monday December 19th Sho Madjozi will be at the new Bargain Books in Blue Route Mall at 10am and then at Bargain Books in Cape Gate Mall at 2pm. On Wednesday December 21st, the book tour moves to Johannesburg and young readers can come see Sho at the Jungle Play Area at Mall of Africa at 11am.With the help of Katlego Keokgale’s beautiful illustrations, Shoma and the Stars is a relatable yet unique South African story about a little girl called Shoma who was born looking a somewhat different from the people in her village because her parents are different races. Shoma has a little sister who she does everything with until one day, Nyeleti – which means ‘star’ in Xitsonga – disappears to become a star in the sky.
