Bongeziwe Mabandla has released two new visualisers from his latest album, Ndingubani.
The visualisers accompany “Ndikhulule (Depression)” and “Ukuyeka”. Both were filmed inside Mabandla’s childhood home, bringing the songs’ deeply personal stories back to a place that shaped his early life.
“Ndikhulule (Depression)” explores trauma, inner struggle and the desire to heal. The song reflects on a period of deep emotional pain. Mabandla uses the image of a prison to describe the feeling of being trapped by years of hurt. Yet, the song leaves room for hope. Its chorus imagines the possibility of finally walking free.
“Ukuyeka” takes a similarly personal approach. The song reflects on a period when Mabandla turned to alcohol to numb emotional pain. He confronts vulnerability, dependence and the shame that followed. Written in English, the track marks an important moment of reflection and closure.
Filming both visualisers in Mabandla’s childhood home adds another layer to the songs. The familiar setting connects his present-day reflections with the places and experiences that shaped him.
The visualisers offer an intimate extension of Ndingubani. Rather than relying on elaborate production, they keep the focus on Mabandla, his story and the emotions at the heart of each song.
