Bongeziwe Mabandla’s “Zama” Soundtracks New KFC Ad

Bongeziwe Mabandla’s “Zama” is the soundtrack to KFC South Africa’s latest Streetwise Family campaign, bringing the song’s heartfelt emotion to a story about family, connection and belonging.

The campaign, titled Make Room for More. It’s a Family Thing, was created by Ogilvy South Africa and produced by Darling Films. Featuring actors S’dumo Mtshali, Zikhona Sodlaka, Katlego Kagje, Angela Linda and Grace Molele, the ad captures the humour, tension and tenderness of an awkward family dinner.

At the centre of the film is the idea that families are complicated, imperfect and come in many different forms. Bongeziwe’s “Zama” adds another layer of emotion to the story, complementing its intimate moments without taking away from the action on screen.

“Zama” from Bongeziwe Mabandla’s Ndingubani

“Zama” is one of the singles from Bongeziwe Mabandla’s album Ndingubani, released on 11 June 2026. The track reflects the album’s deeply personal approach to love, identity and the experiences that shape us.

The song’s inclusion in the campaign introduces it to a wider audience, placing Bongeziwe’s music within a story that many South Africans will recognise. The film’s focus on family and human connection also makes “Zama” a fitting part of its soundtrack.

Taking “Zama” Beyond the Screen

The campaign is followed by a special live music activation at a KFC store, presented in a Tiny Desk-inspired format. Bongeziwe performed selected tracks from Ndingubani, including “Zama”, in an intimate setting.

The performance offered fans a chance to experience the music up close, bringing the song from the screen into a live setting.

With “Zama” featured in the campaign and performed live for listeners, the collaboration creates another opportunity for audiences to connect with Bongeziwe’s latest album and the stories behind its songs.
