Sha Sha’s ability to convey the most potent of emotions – love – takes centre stage in the beautiful new video for “Themba Lami”.
The video features Afro Soul songstress Ami Faku and is directed by Lenzo Dlamini with Black Major executive producing.
Shot in a grand, Victorian-style house located in the leafy suburbs of Houghton, Johannesburg, the video is made up of three main scenes with love being the overarching theme. Within this sensual and affecting setting, the true essence of sisterhood is captured, reflecting the powerful connection between Sha Sha and Ami that’s at the heart of “Themba Lami”. Through an honest and authentic storytelling approach, viewers come away understanding what trust really is, from a woman’s point of view.
“When you listen to the song you get a sense of how intimate it is,” says Dlamini. “I went with a feel and concept that is more inviting into the artists’ personal space, matching the message of the song. We created spaces and a setting that feels like it’s like their own rooms where they can confide in one another.”
“Themba Lami” is the latest single off Sha Sha’s debut album I’M Alive, due out in August. The album weaves Afrobeats and R&B into Amapiano and features Ami Faku, Rowlene, A-Reece, Soa Mattrix, Kabza De Small, and DJ Maphorisa, among many collaborators.
The video for “Themba Lami” was premiered exclusively on MTVBASE on the 17th August 2022 before the official release today.
