Internationally renowned South African producer DJ Lag shares the official video for his latest single, ‘Oke Oke,’ featuring Spanish vocalist Jazz Alonso. The track is a preview of his highly anticipated sophomore album, ‘The Rebellion,’ out June 21.
‘Oke Oke’ – having garnered support from the likes of Clash, DJ Mag, the Guardian, Resident Advisor and XLR8R – signifies DJ Lag’s innovative prowess by seamlessly blending South African rhythms with Jazz Alonso’s captivating vocals. As the latest addition to his upcoming album, ‘The Rebellion,’ the track is an eclectic offering, showcasing Lag’s evolution while staying true to his musical heritage. Speaking about the collaboration, DJ Lag expressed: “Collaborating with Jazz was exhilarating. Her sound deeply connected with me, and our partnership unfolded seamlessly.” The track was crafted during an inspired late-night session in London, with Grammy-nominated UK producer GG contributing to its production.
Shot during DJ Lag’s tour in late 2023, with additional scenes captured in Cape Town, the video production involved coordination across continents, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the team despite geographical challenges. Directed by Jazz Alonso and creatively guided by South African Director of Photography Deon Van Zyl alongside Itamar Weiss representing Black Major, the video provides a visual narrative that intertwines the lives of two individuals in different cities, offering a glimpse into the potential of an imagined relationship.
Jazz Alonso, reflecting on the creative process, envisioned ‘Oke Oke’ as an “electric blue” song, aiming to recreate its textured nuances through color and production cues in the video.
