DJ Lag Releases “Southside” Mixtape

In his latest sonic exploration, DJ Lag releases boundary-defying gqom Southside Mixtape. The project highlights Lag’s growth as one of South Africa’s leading electronic artists while staying rooted in the Gqom sound that has defined his career.

Southside brings together elements of Gqom, 3-Step, and Afro-Tech, presenting a wide sonic range that reflects Lag’s continued experimentation. The mixtape includes recent singles such as “GQTech” with Ape Drums, “Woza” featuring Sir Trill and Sykes, and “WaWaWa” with DJknator and Thobeka. Across the project, Lag balances high-impact club tracks with more melodic, atmospheric moments.

Key collaborations include “NgyaSindelwa” with Zee Nxumalo and K.C Driller, “Wawawa” with Argento Dust and Natasha MD, and “Yey’Wena” with Vigro Deep — a long-anticipated meeting of Gqom and Amapiano influences. Additional contributions from DJ Maphorisa, Jay Music, NovaBoy, Xduppy, 2woshort, and others help shape a project that brings multiple styles together under Lag’s direction.

The release follows a strong run in Lag’s career, which includes a Metro FM Award nomination, a SAMA nomination, a feature on Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift, over 20 million streams on his multi-platinum single The Re-Up, and another SAMA nomination for his album The Rebellion. His recent international touring schedule has featured appearances at Glastonbury, DC10 Ibiza, Ultra South Africa, EDC Las Vegas, Amsterdam Dance Event, Fabric UK, Rage in the City, and Beneath the Baobabs.

With Southside, DJ Lag continues to expand his sound while staying connected to his Durban roots, offering a project that reflects both his versatility and his commitment to pushing South African electronic music forward.
