“My Power” soundtracks the trailer for upcoming film The Woman King

First it was Beyonce’s Black Is King visual album and its trailer – and now the DJ Lag produced “My Power” is soundtracking the trailer for the upcoming film, The Woman King.

“It has been three years since ‘My Power’ came out and here it is being the official trailer song for The Woman King,” said DJ Lag on Instagram. “I’m so proud of us,” he added, in reference to gqom and South African music becoming a celebrated feature of mainstream entertainment.

The Woman King is the remarkable story of the Agojie, the all-female unit of warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s with skills and a fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen. Inspired by true events, The Woman King follows the emotionally epic journey of General Nanisca (Oscar-winner Viola Davis) as she trains the next generation of recruits and readies them for battle against an enemy determined to destroy their way of life.

“My Power” was originally featured on Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift which was nominated for a trio of Grammy Awards.  It features Nija, Beyoncé, Busiswa, Yemi Alade, Tierra Whack and Moonchild Sanelly.
