DJ Lag added yet another accolade to his growing list of honours – this time by winning the Best Gqom Album at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs).
The honour was for the International Pantsula’s debut album Meeting with the King, with the announcement being made ahead of the official ceremony at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria on 18 November.
An Instagram post captured DJ Lag’s joy at winning the category of a genre that he was instrumental in ushering into the world.
As the acclaimed artist and producer has previously said: “We started gqom with hardly working laptops, FruityLoops and tiny speakers in our bedrooms in Clermont. I am grateful to everyone who jumped on the record and also to my team for pushing since day one.”
