The June/July issue of South African GQ has a powerful cover featuring a trio of South African musicians, including Bongeziwe Mabandla.
Bongeziwe says sharing the cover with Simphiwe Dana – “my idol” – and Da Capo was “a dream come true”.
In the extensive accompanying interview he shares his long-held desire to be a musician.
“Ever since I knew the word “artist”, I knew I wanted to be one. I remember seeing the Bongo Maffin “Thathisigubhu” music video where they cut Thandiswa’s hair, and Stoan was wearing a necklace with a razor blade. I asked my brother about them and he told me, “This is Thandiswa, the female vocalist, this is Jah Seed, this is Stoan, this is Speedy”.
