Baloji’s Augure featuring Bongeziwe Mabandla wins at Cannes

Augure, a film by Belgian-Congolese artist Baloji that features Bongeziwe Mabandla, won the “Un Certain Regard” New Voices Award at the recent Cannes Film Festival.

The jury, headed by jury president John C. Reilly, awarded the prize to Augure “for opening our eyes to new approaches to cinema, image and storytelling”.

The film – Baloji’s directorial debut – was selected for the “Un Certain Regard” competition at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. It is a surreally experimental tale of witch trials in contemporary Africa and the ensemble cast includes Mabandla along with Eliane Umuhire, Marc Zinga, Lucie Debay and Yves-Marina Gnahoua.
