DJ Lag is set to release a new visualizer for “Native Sound” on 23 September. The track appears on his 2025 Southside mixtape and features South African DJ Jay Music. The visual was filmed during DJ Lag’s trip to Kenya earlier this year.
“Native Sound” brings together the raw energy of Gqom with modern electronic influences. The track reflects DJ Lag’s continued exploration of South African dance music while staying rooted in the sound that has defined his career.
From Southside to Kenya
Southside brought together Gqom, 3-Step and Afro-Tech across 12 tracks. It also featured collaborations with artists including Zee Nxumalo, K.C Driller, DJ Maphorisa, Ape Drums and Sir Trill.
The mixtape has seen strong moments since its release. “Ngyasindelwa” with Zee Nxumalo and K.C Driller became one of the project’s standout tracks, while “Wawawa” with DJknator and Thobeka brought another high-energy Gqom cut to the project. “Ngyasindelwa” has also passed one million streams across platforms and inspired more than 55,000 TikTok videos.
A New Visual for “Native Sound”
Shot and edited by up-and-coming videographer Eyes of Teddy, the new visualizer takes “Native Sound” beyond the club and into the landscapes of Kenya.
The visual captures the energy of the track through movement, atmosphere and setting. It offers a fresh visual perspective on a song that brings together South African Gqom and electronic sounds.
