Mangaliso is the brand-new single from the new face of Afro-folk – Bongeziwe Mabandla, the two time SAMA nominated artist, said the new single is loosely written on a number of experiences he had. That it’s about finally seeing something you only thought about; it’s about the magic in a factual world.
The song is a feel good song with a positive message of hope, which is different from most of the previously released songs because it has a sense and feeling of happiness, and finding something you have always been searching for
“Mangaliso means miracle or marvel. This word completely captured the joy and bliss I was feeling. The song is about seeing ordinary life as a miracle. It’s about the things that are unseen, but very real. It was many things. Falling in love and meeting the right person, but it also became about my feelings towards my music and the journey that I’m on. Then it came together when I was on tour, and it took on a new meaning about my dreams and aspirations. The miracle of making songs and touching people’s lives. The beauty of the world as it is,” says Bongeziwe.
The title track off his most recent album was co-written by Nicolaas Van Reenen, who is a Cape Town-based multi-instrumentalist and producer, known for his work with a number of acclaimed and emerging acts. He’s filled in guest roles for Spoek Mathambo, has created sonic textures with post-whatever-mammoths Bateleur, and produces avant electro-acoustic sounds as Fever Trails.
The song was originally recorded in Van Reenen’s Cape Town studio in 2014 as the first track off Mangaliso.
