An unreleased song by Bongeziwe Mabandla was one of the highlights of the August 6th episode of Mzansi Magic’s Shaka iLembe – an episode that also saw actor Lemogang Tsipa make his first appearance as the adult Shaka.
In the days following the screening of the episode, Bongeziwe revealed that the inspiration for the new piece of music came from his own life.
“I started working on the song after watching the Shaka series,” he shared. “I immediately fell in love with the whole story and I knew that it was something that I really wanted to work on. What I tried to do with the song was to relate it to my own life and the part of the story that I related to was looking for a father or needing a father or yearning for a father – which is what the character of Shaka is dealing with.
“I wrote from the place of being a young man and looking for your destiny and your heritage and going out into the world and trying to find it. It was an honour to work on such a beautiful and proudly South African series.”
