In the wake of the sad news of DJ Spoko’s untimely death, his last works have been compiled in an album titled Spoko Forever.
The poignantly titled EP is comprised of four previously unreleased tracks, and was put together by DJ Spoko over the last few months. All proceeds from the purchase of this album will go to his children.
Born Marvin Ramalepe, DJ Spoko is globally renowned as the founder of Bacardi House, which he described in an interview with IDM Mag as being created “only for one duty which is to make people dance, one purpose to make them sweat”.
Having studied sound engineering in Nozinja’s studio, DJ Spoko innovated Bacardi House out of his home studio in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, along the way contributing production to one of the most iconic dance tracks to emerge from South Africa, DJ Mujava’s “Township Funk”.
Among DJ Spoko’s recordings was the Ghost Town EP, released internationally via True Panther, and he also toured internationally, including being part of the MoMA PS1 Warm Up Series in New York in 2014.
Thank you Spoko. We carry the memories fondly. Your legacy speaks for itself.
