Laliboi and Volume met in 2015 through their respective bands (Radio 123 & Go Barefoot) sharing the stage in Johannesburg and Vosloorus. At the end of 2018 Sipho (Laliboi) and Saul (Volume) got together in the studio with Morena Leraba. The chemistry was explosive and resulted in the title track “Xam”.This lead to many more sessions together, bringing in the brilliant musicians Daniel Basckin, Noah Bamberger and Thamsanqa Ngwenya alongside another Morena Lereba collaboration “Isigubhu Asipheli”.
This EP features four tracks all unique in their own way but share the special experiences that took place creating them alongside conversations of spirituality, cultural differences and mental health.
Xam comes from the name of the symbol and material used by traditional healers in South Africa. It refers to the skin of the monitor lizard used in traditional medicine and healing. In context of the EP the name refers to the healing power of music and connects it to how we may all find spirituality in any form we choose and to respect all cultures, traditions and outlooks on the world.
The EP will be released exclusively on BandCamp this Friday the 1st of May and eventually will be available on all streaming platforms. We hope to encourage our audiences to support local artistry and the recording music industry by purchasing our EP from BandCamp.
