Is an artist’s duty to reflect the times, as Nina Simone has famously said? This is the question at the heart of a recent conversation Bokani Dyer had with Siya Mthembu.
The Brother Moves On co-founder and frontman contemplates this question, sharing that he “grew up on Nina” and “doesn’t know music that doesn’t speak to the times”.
The conversation with Siya is the first in a series that Bokani will have with different artists. The series arises partly out of his Master of Music (MMus) that he was awarded in 2022 and his continuing interest in the academic side of music.
