Bokani Dyer will be presenting Radio Sechaba on Joy of Jazz’s Dinaledi Stage on November 25th at the Sandton Convention Centre.
He joins the line-up of the 23rd edition of Mzansi’s premier jazz festival which takes place over the weekend of 25 – 26 November. Others on the bill include Mandisi Dyantyis, Msaki, Jimmy Dludlu and Duma Maswana.
Dyer’s Joy of Jazz appearance is an opportunity for audiences to experience Radio Sechaba live and up-close. With an album set for release in 2023 through Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings, the project presents a further aspect to Dyer’s wide-ranging and singular artistic expression. “Most of my music up to this point has been instrumental and for Radio Sechaba I am singing much more,” says Dyer. “Adding words, and a literary component, is a much more direct way of sending a message which is what I want to do with the project.”
Other highlights of the Joy of Jazz include Gloria Bosman leading a glorious celebration of the music and legacy of the late grand matriarch of song, Sibongile Khumalo and the Horn Summit, A Tribute to Bra Johnny Mekoa which will honour the great trumpet maestro and founder of the Music Academy of Gauteng.
