DJ Lag Joins YouTube Black Voices Music Class of 2022

DJ Lag is among the 54 international artists, songwriters and producers inducted into the #YouTubeBlack Voices Music Class of 2022.

One of eight Africans, his inclusion was announced by YouTube late October. He is among the first cohort of  songwriters and producers to be included in the initiative that seeks to expand the platform’s “commitment to Black musical excellence”.

“Expanding on our commitment, this new class will also include songwriters and producers, and for the first time ever, the classes will have the opportunity to come together to co-write and collaborate,” YouTube said.

Supported by the #YouTube Black Voices Fund, the music class is a development programme to directly support and mentor black artists, songwriters and producers globally. Alongside DJ Lag, the African roster of artists includes Nigeria’s CKay, Omah Lay, P.Priime and Telz, Uganda’s Azawi as well as Major League DJz and Elaine from South Africa.

The #YouTubeBlack Voices Music Class of 2022 will receive dedicated partner support from YouTube, seed funding invested into the development of their channels, as well as the opportunity to participate in training and networking programmes focused on production, fan engagement and wellbeing.
